Back homethe issue of healthcare.
23/02/2007for a long time i’ve been torn on the issue of healthcare; the question of whether it is, after all, a cardinal right to citizens of this country.
having been exposed to some of the poverty-consumed areas of LA and new york, i’ve gained a deep level of sympathy for those who are often unable to eat, find indoor shelter, or seek medical assistance when needed. nevermind why they are homeless or why they continue to be homeless when the opportunities to integrate back into society are readily available to them…it just kills me.
as for a solution to this overly expensive enterprise that is american healthcare, i really don’t have one. do i think healthcare for everyone is essential? yes. should it be given to everyone, thus requiring the burden to fall onto the more successful/more fortunate? i’m not so sure.
i strongly believe in charity. as a christian, i know that i have a responsibility to act alongside those in need—but is it ethically permissible for the government to reach into the pockets of tax-paying americans and FORCE them to be charitable?
just a thought.
